I mentioned before that I would be changing things up after the marathon. Somehow I have to get away from the structured routine I have been doing for way too long now. And today was a great start.
Before I describe today’s workout, I want to let you know I have not been sitting on my butt all week. I did manage a 30 minute easy bike spin on Monday (at the urging of smarter minds). The worst part of that was getting my foot in my bike shoe. Tuesday I did nothing but sit in my truck at Crawfish Aquatics playing Words with Friends on my Iphone (timbeaux). Last night I actually did a decent bike trainer workout followed by the Ab Ripper X workout. My abs need some work.
So this morning, I was trying to decide what to do. I knew the weather would be beautiful and I wanted to be outside. Christine was headed to Baton Rouge with Mason, so riding bikes was out. I could have done it by myself, but in our minuscule area it would have been boring and felt like training. The pool looks great (Christine is my pool girl), but freezing my nuts off was not very appealing. With those two out, the only one of my regular exercises was running.
Uggghhh. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love to run. And I will probably always love to run. But I have decided that I am going to do something different. Not only do I want to try different types of exercises, but I also want to try a brand new philosophy. I am actually going to work on my weaknesses instead of reinforcing my strengths. Novel approach, eh?
So running was out. Let’s see. It’s beautiful outside. No running. No swimming. No biking. I know, let’s get Mikie! Actually, I typed outdoor workout routines in Google and hit the jackpot. After a couple of useless websites, I found this outdoor circuit routine that looked painful enough to give it a shot. I can’t explain it, so watch this.
Yep, I tried that. I marked out 20 yards by 20 yards in my back yard and gave it a shot. After the first “set” my shoulders had a case of the screaming red ass at me. So I kept going. I ended up managing 6 sets even though I had to rename the bear crawl the three toed sloth crawl. To add to the thrill (said very sarcastically), I had to dodge some of those lovely sticker plants in the yard.
When I was finished, I wasn’t ready to go inside so I go on the trampoline and jumped for 10 minutes. Not your little mini tramp half inch off the surface bouncing, but the arms flailing out of control jumping. It was and my heart rate stayed up.
I don’t know how often I will throw this workout in the mix because I may be heavily medicated with Ibuprofen tomorrow. I do know that I will be googling some other interesting workouts and changing things up!

Next time maybe wear gardening gloves so the sticker plants don’t bother you
