No, this has nothing to do with any waste of taxpayer’s money. I wouldn’t waste my breath on that. But today, I bailed out on a workout. I didn’t skip it or get rained out or have some legitimate excuse for bailing out. I started, went a little ways, and then called it quits.
But let me back up a few days. These days I seem to have so little time that I just jump right in. I have just finished up three grueling weeks of training with weekly miles of 41.05, 42.38, and this past week was 44.82 miles. And with all of these weeks, I did not skip a workout. But by the time I finished my 18 mile run on Saturday, I was in bad shape.
I spent the first 4 miles of the 18 trying to work the soreness out of my legs. After that, it was a great run and a good end to the hard weeks.
This afternoon was different. The plan was a 2 to 3 mile warm up, 4 or 5 x 1000m intervals, and then a 2 to3 mile cool down. By the time I hit the two mile mark, my lower legs were throbbing so bad I could barely run. They weren’t just sore, they ached. And for some reason, it was getting worse by the minute. So I kicked myself for a couple of minutes and then admitted defeat.
I jogged the quarter mile back to my truck and spent two hours wallowing in my misery while waiting for Mason. And here is the best part……I have my 10 mile race Saturday morning!
So here is the plan. I am going to take a hot shower, put on my compression socks, grab a large glass of wine and pop numerous ibuprofens. I will probably do the same thing tomorrow and maybe Friday. And on Saturday, I will do what I can.

[...] with the massive increase in mileage, I was holding my own. And then I had a really bad workout (see here). It was the start of about 3 weeks of pain, self diagnosis and wondering what in the hell is [...]
[...] Last week my body talked to me. There were a lot of four letter words used and none of them were “love”, “easy”, or “good.” To say that my legs were unhappy with me would be an understatement. So unlike most politicians these days, I actually stopped and listened to what my body had to say. And then I gave it some rest. I stopped the workout.
