I tried to make a “training plan”. I tried to stick with the aforementioned “training plan”. But then, our previously scheduled post wedding kitchen remodel kicked into full gear. And with that, my “training plan” required Saturday long runs went out the window. There just wasn’t time in the day to get it all done!
So I had to make some modifications to the plan. I decided that my Tuesday morning run would become my long run. I mean, who doesn’t love running for hours at 4 AM? Hey. You do what you have to in order to stay in shape and achieve your goals.
This morning, I rolled out of bed at 3:33 AM. My alarm was set for 4:14 AM (another story), but my internal alarm woke me up much earlier. And at 3:33 I had enough of my arm aching, so I just got up. I quickly dressed, grabbed my iPhone and did that swipe to check the weather. “Rain starting in 61 minutes”. Whatever……it is what it is.
I hit the road and started my run in hot sticky weather. By the way, look at the date of this post. FEBRUARY 7th! It should not be hot sticky weather! Anyway, the miles started ticking off and things were pretty uneventful. Uneventful until I saw the bright lights of a car slowly rolling down the street towards me.
If you follow my instagram, you may remember that last week I heard a couple of gunshots during my early run. And now, I have a suspicious car creeping towards me. Are there multiple gunman aiming at me right now? Is the baseball gang from the movie Warriors waiting to jump out and bash my skull in? Why are they going so slow?
As they pulled along side of me, something whizzed by my head.
A newspaper. Evidently, they were new to the route and still trying to find their way. And luckily for me, I got to be blinded by them 3 more times on my serpentine route I took!
I finished up with 8 miles this morning and was pretty pleased. The moral of the story is that you can find a way to stay active and healthy if you really want to. Or you can come up with a million excuses. It’s your choice.
Have a nice day!
