Self Control

Okay, I did it.  I went for a run.  Actually, I went for a walk and ran a few times.  My goal is to slowly test my leg and see how it responds.  If it survives the break in period, then I will run them into the ground……literally.

With the weather looking oh so pleasant, it was the perfect time for a walk/run.  While Mason was swimming, I turned on my Garmin and took off……..walking.  I walked for 5 minutes and then I ran for 1 minute.  It was a little difficult at first because my knee started hurting like it had a catch in it.  My muscles were protesting because they thought I had retired.  But the 1 minute of running went by quickly.

And then I walked for another 5 minutes.  And then ran another minute.  By now, things were loosening up and I was getting itchy.  So I switched to 4 minutes walk and 2 minutes running, and then to 3 minutes walk and 3 minutes running.  Woo-hoo!  Now we are getting somewhere!  I could feel my leg, but it was not painful.  Just a distant sensation letting me know that it was still there.  But when I was running, I really wanted to keep going.

But I really needed to exercise some self control.  I do not have time to take another two weeks off.  I have met my quota and training deductible for the year.  From here on out it will be a steady progression towards Rocky Raccoon.

I will try for another walk/run on Thursday and possibly a longer run this weekend.  And then next weekend I am signed up for two trail races!  Now that’s self control!
