It’s late. I’m tired. But here is cliff note’s version of this morning’s run.
In order to be fully prepared for Rocky Raccoon, I need to practice running at a slower pace. If I average faster than a 12:00 pace for the first few loops, then I will be toast. So today, I set Bubba the Virtual pacer on a 12:00 pace and 3 hours and 45 minutes of running time.
From the get go, I wanted to run faster. It took a lot of patience (which Christine says I have none of) to let Bubba keep up with me. Actually it took a lot of walking. I did not stop the watch for anything (just like race day). Probably 6 pee breaks, a couple of bottle swaps and a glove grab and I kept moving.
During the last mile, I picked it up a bit and finished with a little over 19 miles. Here are some lessons learned.
- My comfortable run pace is around 9 minute miles.
- My walking pace is less than 14 minutes per mile.
- I had to walk a lot to stay around 12 minutes per mile.
- Hammer Perpetuem works for me.
- 350 calorie Equate did not.
- Peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches are a novelty but not much else.
- The caffeine Sports Beans did not upset my stomach so they will be on tap for the night.
- Walking is colder than running.
- My amphipod waist pack was great with an empty bottle.
- It sucked with a full bottle.
There is more to the story such as the sketchy people I thought I was going to have to outrun. I did memorize their license plate number.
Other than that………MERRY CHRISTMAS!
