Well, I went to see an orthopedic doctor today about my leg. He took an X-ray, but it was not conclusive. Without getting into random details he said it was the early stages of a stress fracture in my fibula. He wants me to “modify” my training for two weeks and call him back with a status report. If there is no improvement, he will do a MRI to identify the exact location of the problem.
So what does this mean? I translated the “modify my training” to mean little or no running. Of course, that makes training to run 100 miles a little difficult. But it is just another bump in the road. I haven’t worked out any details of how I will approach this, but I am pretty sure my bike will be involved. Maybe my pool will play a part depending on how cold it gets.
I’m pretty clueless right now. My excel spreadsheet training plan has a lot of boxes for scheduled runs. Now it looks sort of empty.
But I need to look on the bright side. If I hadn’t gone to the doctor and caught it when I did, I could have ended up with a full blown stress fracture. And that would mean no more running for 6 to 8 weeks.
Just say some prayers that I don’t slip up and go for a long run in the next two weeks. And that things heal quickly!
