With the heat these days, it is hard to tell if I am making any progress in my training. As I mentioned a few posts back, there are no easy runs anymore. So I cannot say that yesterday’s eight mile run was “easy” compared to a similar run back in April. There are no “apples to apples” relationships when the heat & humidity is so drastically different. It is closer to a “raw egg to fried egg” comparison.
The only numbers that I can really compare are the mileage numbers. In my post about Perspectives, I talked about my goal of running 100 miles and that I had only run 98 miles during that whole month! Since this race is all about endurance and base miles, I figured that would be a good comparison.
Days to reach 100 miles
- March – 42 days (okay, there are not 42 days in March, but starting March 1st it took me 42 days to hit 100 miles)
- April – 32 days (see note above except replace the 42 with a 32 and “March” with “April”)
- May – 26 days
- June – 21 days
Yep, I hit 100 miles yesterday with my 8 mile run. I guess if I look at those numbers, I am making progress. But some days it does not feel like it.
My only hope is that when I get into late Fall and start hitting the 100 miles in less than 2 weeks that all of this “heat” training will pay off. At least I can hope.
