Sometimes I get the feeling that I have dropped off the face of the earth. And then I realize that it is just the beginning of the school year and all that entails. And I have to say that the start of this year has been a whirlwind! This is the first year we have both kids in high school……….I mean in high schools. Yep, Lara is a senior at St. Amant and Mason is a freshman at East Ascension. (Please don’t ask.)
With this being Lara’s senior year, she has all kind of things happening. She is taking a college class at RPCC. She is doing an internship class with a local pediatrician (that has created some disgusting dinner conversations.) She is also co-captain of both the Gatorettes and the swim team. And then………she just made the homecoming court and got nominated for student of the year. Talk about a busy schedule!
Mason, on the other hand, is still trying grasp the whole high school vibe. He is in all honors classes, so his studying and intensity is up. His short break from Crawfish Aquatics ended, so he is back to swimming 5 days a week. And he is now on the East Ascension swim team as well! Not a lot of down time during the week for him.
And of course, Christine has been at her new job for several months now, so they have discovered that she is a machine. That means she stays swamped from the minute she wakes up until her head hits the pillow at night.
As for me, I stay buried at work, try to scramble to whatever event is on the daily agenda, and do my best to work out as often as possible. I have managed to get my running back up to some level of mediocrity. In the past 4 days I put in 26 miles including a 4 AM half marathon on Sunday which I ran in 1 hour and 50 minutes. Other than that, I am just surviving.
But change is coming(not the Obama kind of change!)………I am about to enter a couple of races………..the weather will be cooling off (hopefully)………..and I am about to embark on a long term challenge.
And hopefully I will start posting more than once a month.
