Christine’s version of our 16 mile run on Saturday:
Yes, my longest run ever is now 16 miles. I am totally serious about doing the St. Jude Marathon on Dec. 6, 2008. Yesterday, God blessed Tim and I with beautiful weather and the ability to run, so we did what we called the Tour D’ Pelican Point.
We started out at 7:00 am and after running on Hwy 44 for a mile and a half, we reached Pelican Point. Once in the subdivision, traffic consisted mainly of golf carts. You guessed it: a golf course community. I think some shout outs are in order now: Donna Stone for the use of her hose (water refill), Clara Leigh for the restroom, and the Pot-o-Gold company (we never found the gold.) Bathroom breaks were something that slipped our minds in planning, but thanks to house construction and port-a-potties we managed.
After running about 10 miles through the entire subdivision with lots of our own entertainment, we headed back down Hwy 44. Things were scary because this time the traffic was very heavy with big trucks and a very small shoulder. However, Tim found the sword of the destiny: a Halloween costume sword that he picked up. That was our distraction for the next 40 minutes of the run. By the time we got back home the only things I could think of were water, getting in over knee deep in my pool, and food.
I have to say that I was a little nervous about this run because the plan called for 3 hours and 10 minutes! It was a great run and a God blessed me with beautiful weather. This run has me really excited about the Marathon. Even better is the fact that over the past week I have received a few donations.
Now, I hope those of you who have been putting off donating rethink your plan of action. The way I see it is pretty simple. You donate to St. Jude’s and help out hundreds of kids, which is physically painless for you. While I, on the other hand, over the course of training and running the marathon will have run over 350 miles. The winners in all of this are the sick children of St. Jude’s Hospital.
Thank you sincerely to those of you who have donated and are supporting me.
Thank you and God bless,
Christine Hutchinson
